Kinda funny that Nvidia states that the current driver versions support RTX20xx series if you go to their website... Wonder what Qnap did to prevent these from working.

Hi,
I installed the latest NVIDIA GPU driver (v2.1.4 ) on my TS-673 wich provides a kernel module 410.78. I want to give access to this GPU within a container but my application need at least a 4.18 version.
How can I upgrade the driver ? Is there an update package, or a beta one?

You can't.. the NV drivers are supposed to be upgraded to a newer version as part of the release of QTS 4.4.2. When that will happen, I don't know. In the meantime applications such as Plex, etc. that need those newer driver versions are out of luck for now.

I wonder if the new driver would support any 1650 Super card on my TVS-672XT...

The TVS-672XT does not have a 6 Pin PCI-E adapter, and will not power on the card to allow boot. I also have a TVS-872XT and attempted to boot without the PCI-E 6 Pin but it would not. Some 1650 will work without the 6 pin, as long as they aren't overclocked and fully stressed.

So you’re saying I am effectively stuck with the 1050 TI?

Unless you do the research and find a 1650 card that can be used without a 6 pin pci-e adapter. Do note, the 1650 does NOT include the new NVENC turing encoder. The 1650 Super, 1660, and 1660ti do. They all however, require a 6 pin pci-e adapter.

Re: Nvidia Drivers hack

Post by spikemixture »

It hasn't been brought up for awhile.
Is there now a hack for Qnap boxes to unleash certain GPU's to transcode more than 2 as can be done on PC's.
Qnap TS-1277 1700 (48gb RAM) 8x10TB WD White,- Raid5, 2x M.2 Crucial 1TB (Raid 1 VM),
2x SSD 860 EVO 500gb (Raid1 QTS), 2x SSD 860 EVO 250GB (Cache), 2x M.2 PCIe 970 500gb NVME (Raid1 Plex and Emby server)
GTX 1050 TI
Qnap TVS-1282 i7 (32GB RAM) 6x8TB WD White - JBOD, 2x M.2 Crucial 500gb (Raid1 VM),
2x SSD EVO 500gb (Raid1 QTS), 2x SSD EVO 250gb (Raid1 Cache), 2x M.2 PCIe Intel 512GB NVME (Raid1-Servers)
Synology -1817+ - DOA
Drobo 5n - 5x4TB Seagate, - Drobo Raid = 15TB
ProBox 8 Bay USB3 - 49TB mixed drives - JBOD
All software is updated asap.
I give my opinion from my experience i.e. I have (or had) that piece of equipment/software and used it!

The hack has nothing to do with QNAP boxes peruse, but is a hack of the nvidia driver itself. There is nothing preventing someone from taking the hack script and modifying/adjusting it to modify the QNAP drivers since they are the Nvidia drivers, just in different locations from a standard Nvidia Linux install.

The latest Official NVIDIA drivers increased the cap from 2 > 3 on GTX series cards. Hoping QNAP will release an updated driver that includes this.
