indexing Videos only

Post by frozen »

I bought the wife a new tv :-)

Setting up media console so she can view movies and tv videos that we have on the server. Problem is the indexing wants to index everything including photos and music. Is there any way to just pick videos. I did goto content sources and pick the video and movie folder but it still wants to index everything. I am at 475000 files in 20 hours and it's still grinding away, sigh.

I did try advanced settings in the dlna streaming add-on and picked a custom menu with videos only but I thing that is only for view on the tv and doesn't effect what is indexed.

Any suggestions or even other apps recommended?

Thanks

nope .. that new QNAP media indexer has no settings to limit ..

best thing to abandon QNAP apps and go with something like Plex, if your (unspecified) NAS model supports it

TS-431P. It does support Plex. I will look at it. Nearly 24 hours later and it's still indexing. Nuts

If I install Plex do I need the media console running or the dlna streaming addon or can I dump both of these and Plex will take care of the media?

I found a workaround for the DLNA issue. The problem is that the Multimedia Console 1.1.3 does not refresh indexing when changes are done on the NAS for DLNA sources.

1. Open the Control Panel.
2. In the Applications section on the bottom, launch the DLNA Media Server.
3. Click on the Scan Now button.

This will force the DLNA Media Server to do a scan for any indexing updates and takes only a few minutes. This way you do not have to do a complete re-index of all the files on the server which can takes hours.

as this is an old thread, things have changed ..apparently qnap enabled selective indexing now, so no workaround needed
