"News" pop-up after update to 4.4.2 1302

Post by LaUs3r »

Hi all,

after I updated today to 4.4.2 1302 Build 20200512, I was greeted after login by this "beautiful" and useless "News"-popup in the bottom right corner
I didn't find any checkbox to deactivate this "unwanted - I never asked for it"-feature.

Any hints?
cheers
Cheers,
LaUs3r

And I dont know if it is linked or not, but my qnap was shut down last night...

i assume that changes will be made in the next couple of builds to rectify this. it was probably an oversight that this box thing would have this reaction.

i understand the need for marketing, but ... having it just pop in qts more than once is just too much :/ imho

besides, isn't that what the qnap.com main website is there for? anybody who owns a qnap would visit the site to download the update (for manual update). they can view whatever new marketing material there upon visiting.

even if they decide to keep it around, i suggest it be similar to the qts changelog pop up that shows one time after an update, then never shows again. and if later the user decides to check on the news in case they accidentally closed it, it should be set aside somewhere where the user can navigate to.

I totally agree. Unless this a coding error, this needs to be fixed at once along with an apology to all users.

Moogle, You know how to make a poll, right?
Why not set one up here and with some overwhelming contributions from forum members, perhaps we can get QNAP to change their mind quickly!

You should open a ticket then, instead of ranting in a forum known to be not reviewed by QNAP-Support.

i was wondering why the ts for this and the other thread didn't make a poll :S it's more efficient for people to cast their like or dislike, rather than have the lurkers come out and post something they would not normally do.

maybe the admins can help the ts add one "do you like/want this "news" ad overlay in qts? yes or no. i'm not a betting person, but if i were i'd put my money on a resounding No :-0

I probably shouldn't cause i'd get yelled at for creating a duplicate thread :(

Anyway my vote is either No, or at the very least for them to tone it down so that it isn't as big a nuisance as it is in it's current form.

I opened a ticket.
This kind of unannounced surprises look so needy and very sad.
I feel QNAP is intruding my personal space. Very unprofessionally if you ask me.
I reverted to an earlier firmware, until this is resolved.
Free advice - QNAP, stay professional.

They should be ashamed!

First their horrid Multimedia Console indexing which can't be stopped (just paused and it resumes at every restart) or limited to selected folders and now this, unbelievable!

Unless the make the ads go away I'm switching to Synology or Thuecus.
