FEATURE REQUEST TR-004

Post by cnk_gr »

Just bought a TR-004 expansion unit.

Why is there a limit to just ONE raid group on software control?

I have 2x4TB and 2x3TB disks so I wanted to create two separate RAID 1 groups (4tb and 3 tb capacity) but I only get RAID 5 (more capacity .. about 8 TB but terrible write speeds) or RAID 10 (6 TB... even less capacity since the 4 TB disks are used up to 3TB).

Also I would like an option to control the sounds it makes via software control (e.g. mute alarms on raid rebuild or at least control the volume level.... ).

Hi! As QNAP do not routinely monitor this forum, you'll need to submit a ticket to QNAP if you want this considered.

Backed up to a stack of a half dozen 'cold' external 12TB and 8TB HDDs - please back up your data, RAID is not the same as a backup!

Formerly TVS-463 with 4*WD60EFRX in RAID5, planning to reuse as an additional backup destination in the new year.

2x raid1's is a terrible waste of space compared to just running 4 hdds in raid5 by comparison though isn't it?

I'm not sure what is your usage case scenario, but to me between the 2, i'd rather use the raid5 for more storage that comes with redundancy to boot (still recommend backups though).

The only benefit of a setup like that is the ability to use mixed size hard drives, so you could have one RAID1 with 4TB disks and a second with 8TB disks, a setup not feasible with RAID5 if you want to utilise the whole capacity of every 'data' disk.
