HBS 3 cannot display the remote folders over rsync

Post by pmichelazzo »

Hi there,
I'm trying to use the HBS 3 to do a one-way sync between two NAS (the other one is Synology) over the web but, when I try to select the remote folder on the "Create a sync job" window, nothing happens.

Some evidences that's a problem with HBS 3:
  1. I've made a sync using the terminal of my computer with the remote NAS (rsync -vvv -a -e 'ssh -p xxx' ./* user (at) xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:/var/services/homes/user/) and it's working 100% perfect;
  2. I can list the folders on the remote share on the terminal (rsync -v -r -e 'ssh -p xxx' user (at) xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:/var/services/homes/user/);
  3. The connection test on the HBS 3 is working 100% resulting a successful test and a transfer speed around 800Kb/sec;
  4. I tried the same procedures with HBS 3 on three different browsers on Mac (Firefox, Chrome, Safari) and two others on Ubuntu (Firefox and Chrome);
  5. I wait on each browser more than 10 minutes for a list of folders, what's crazy because the remote folder is a test folder and just contain another folder with 10 files of 10kb each.
My setup:
Local: MacBook and a Mac Mini accessing a QNAP TS-453A with 8GB RAM running the last firmware (4.4.2.1262)
Remote: Synology DS-404 slim
Connection over internet between the points.

Of course that I can run a cronjob with a rsync bash command but since QNAP provide a tool to manage the backup tasks, why should I do it? :D

Someone has a clue about what could fix this problem? I really appreciate it.
Thank you!

Yes,
In the end, the problem was a flay on my Synology storage.

By default, the "use chroot" module parameter on rsyncd.conf file from Synology is set up with "no". After I changed to "false" (the right option), the sync start and finish 100% without any change on the permissions.

Check if you have the same mistake on the rsyncd.conf file and just change no to false.

Best

Thanks for the info, sadly doesn't seem to make a difference in my case, i am using a linux server to replicate from and have set it to both false and no and i still cant display folders. Weird thing is if i choose secure so it goes over port 22 i can see all folders apart from my home folder on the linux server - and that's the folder i want to back up...

I have the same issue, all other folders show but not the home folder on my Ubuntu 18.04 server when using port 22

Is there a fix or a reason why this is happening?

Probably permissions in your home folder.

Hi pmichelazzo,

same problem here. did you already found a solution?
If I select One-Way Sync by RSYNC, I can select one folder-pair only, but
if I select One-Way Sync by FTP, I can select many folder-pairs to sync.
So it's a dedicated bug in combination of One-Way Sync and RSYNC.

@QNAP-TEAM please check this out. I'm sure you will find the bug-fix very easy.
