QNA-UC5G1T crashes at 5GbE on MacOS

Post by nikowyk »

Hello, I installed 2x QNA-UC5G1T. One on my NAS with fixed ip 10.0.0.20 and one on my iMac (MacOS Catalina 10.15.7) with fixed ip 10.0.0.21. Drivers in Mac are installed (pacific.kext version 1.4.12) and the card is correctly recognized ad QNAP QNA-UC5G1T USB to 5GbE Adapter. Connection works and I can transfer files (single .iso testfile 10GB) well at 1GbE and 2.5GbE but if i try to set to the Adapter on the mac to 5GbE it works sometimes but often the system crashes and the Mac restarts or i loose the connection to my NAS during the transfer. I tryed to exlude everything from damaged network cabels to SMB 2.0 or SMB 3.0 settings but on my Mac I allways get this crashes. Installed the QNA-UC5G1T also on a Windows PC an there I don't have this problems. Works well at 5GbE. Seems to be some driver problems with the Aquantica AQC111U Chipset on Macs? What can I do to resolve this issue bevore a request a return of the product?

Other question. How can I use the Qnap NAS as a Switch so that direct connection on the 5GbE aso gets an Internet connection? My NAS is also connected on one of the four INTEL I210 Gigabit NICs to my router. NAS ip 192.168.0.20 and Router ip 192.168.0.181. Nas has Internet connection and Gateway is corretly set to this Adapter 1. So what I want, is to direct connect my iMac with the NAS with the fixed ip 10.0.0.21 (IMAC) and 10.0.0.20 (NAS) at Adapter 5 (QNA-UC5G1T) and also get an internet connection on this direct connection. I am trying to set this up with the Virtual Switch function, but I do something wrong or is this not possible? Install a virtual router? Also can I use the other 3 NIC ports of the nas to act as switch to connect my television to internet trough Adapter 2, 3 or 4. So Adapter 1 has the Gateway but shares it also with Adapter 2, 3 and 4 like a switch?
I hope I have expressed myself well.

Kind regards and I hope I can get some help. Thanks

Opened also a Ticket on QNAP Support and got this answer:

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

This is a confirmed bug (ID 0067136) by our resource and development team and a fix will be implemented on future firmware release.
QTS web UI will prompt you to upgrade once the new firmware is available to install.

Thank you.

I also tested al lot this week the QNA-UC5G1T with different settings on my NAS.
I temporary solved the problem by using AFP on my MAC but of course it is slower then the SMB and does not using the full transfer speed of the 5Gbe.
Using 2x Toshiba N300 8TB in Raid 1 (max write speed should be around 200-210MB/s).

Here are my tests and settings:

NAS with SMB Version 2.1 or 3
NAS + MAC Jumbo Frame 9000
test result: 195MB/s write and 390MB/s read and after some seconds CRASH

NAS with SMB Version 2.1 or 3
NAS + MAC Jumbo Frame 7418
test result: 185MB/s write and 350MB/s read and after some seconds CRASH

NAS with SMB Version 2.1 or 3
NAS + MAC Jumbo Frame 4074
test result: 150MB/s write and 350MB/s read and after some seconds CRASH

NAS with SMB Version 3
NAS + MAC Jumbo Frame 1500
test result: 140MB/s write and 320MB/s read stable for minutes and sometimes CRASHES

NAS with SMB Version 2.1
NAS + MAC Jumbo Frame 1500
test result: 135MB/s write and 300MB/s read seems to run stable

NAS with SMB Version 2
NAS + MAC Jumbo Frame 9000 (testes also 7418-4074-1500 stable but slower transfer)
test result: 135MB/s write and 240MB/s read seems to run stable

NAS with SMB Version 1
NAS + MAC Jumbo Frame 9000 (testes also 7418-4074-1500 stable but slower transfer)
test result: 70MB/s write and 70MB/s read seems to run stable

NAS with AFP
NAS + MAC Jumbo Frame 9000 (testes also 7418-4074-1500 stable but slower transfer)
test result: 140MB/s write and 350MB/s read seems to run stable

Tested also on a WIN10 PC with SMB Version 3 or 2.1 it runs stable with Jumbo frame 9000 at 200 MB/s write and 390MB/s read.

STILL waiting for help on my second request from above:
