Share files to local network

I want to share some files of the Nas to the local network, making impossible to access to them from the Wan.

Is it possible?

Sharing files in the LAN is the default usage of a NAS, unclear what you mean .. can you elaborate ?

Hi @dolbyman, it's true, thanks for your contribution.

I'm using my Qnap to share files in my Lan, as usual. But some of these files are shared in the Wan, too, to certain users.

Now I need an "only local user". I need a new user that cannot be usable over the Wan. I cannot do this using my firewall, as I used to. But I don't know if it is possible to do this using the qnap OS.

afaik on the qnap, you can set what user has access to which shares. also what permission like read/write.

but for wan... isn't that usually the firewall rules on your router?

so you don't want them to be able to remotely access the nas from the internet ya? then shouldn't you only provide the vpn login credentials to users that actually should have remote access? without that, the other users can't remote to your nas. vpn server ideally setup on the router. vpn client is then run from whatever pc is trying to access your nas from offsite over the internet.

anyway sounds to me like you are just simply exposing your nas online for remote, without using vpn for this. you shouldn't

if remote access is not even a requirement, you can simply leave router like pfsense on defaults which is already secure as it's not port forwarding or exposing your lan to the wan. problem solved

yes..never expose your nas to wan ..there is malware and ransomware attacks again right now ..so stop that right away
