Photo Station Streaming Videos stuttering

Post by r4yn0r »

Hi guys,

when i got back from holidays i was upset my videos are now stuttering.
It loads 5 sec - then buffering. Then another 5 sec.
Using 4k 60 fps iphone videos - using native player on the iphone to watch inside qphoto.

I already checked the cpu while playing a video and it is at 22%
no transcoding - just native. My connection is fine.

I am using a ts-451.

Cany any1 help me with this issue? would be glad!

Are you accessing your videos from WAN ? .. Maybe that NAS is busy encrypting your files for ransom ? (no joke)

Sure i am using WAN. But there is no evidence of ransomware.

But i am viewing videos in the LAN on a 5 GhZ WLAN Connection supporting like 800MBits true bandwrith.

But actually the direction is not that bad. I just did a test download via LAN and it was only at 5 MByte/s.
Pretty bad. I configurated 2 disks as thick volume - should i convert that to raid?
any ideas?

You should stop WAN exposure asap (see millions of bucks QNAP users paid in ransom for deadbolt alone)

Check your CPU usage and see if anything is bogging the NAS down (as malware would)

As i said CPU usage is low.
No one of the WAN Users is using an admin account.
No one of the WAN Users has delete privilege.
Doing Full Backups twice a year on an external harddrive.
So it should not be a problem.

Disabled admin accounts, 2FA..all smoke and mirrors ..exploits will just let the malware in..see the linked thread
But good on you on the backups..that at least might only kill newer files (created after the latest backup) and not priceless long term memories or files

Anyways..I have never used video station (I always stay away from QNAP Apps when possible) ..so if nobody else has an idea, a ticket with QNAP is probably a good idea.

I think i found out the prob.

If i am connection via the cloud name i have data transfer like 5 mbyte/s
if i connect via direct network i got like 10 mbyte/s
maybe it depens
both from lan

and from randomsware - i think my geoblocking firewall just reject like 99% of trash...
and if a ransomware idiot wants to get money - i just tripled the backup strategy - so fu :D :D :D

i will try out this for videos....
