PSU Fan Replacement?

Post by Ifti »

Has anyone successfully swapped out the fan in a PSU??

https://shop.qnap.com/index.php?route=p ... uct_id=341

Looks like the fan can be replaced, and I would like to replace it with a Noctua fan, but an unsure which to purchase?
Anyone have any further details?

take the fan out and measure it (dimensions and connector type)

then buy an equivalent

Lots of postings on this topic and lots using that brand of fan specifically :) They may not be the same model but the selection and replacement process is the same :)

I've replaced that fan in the Delta PSU on a Synology I had a few years back. Its just a 40x40x20mm fan, 2 wires. You do have to cut solder/splice.

Thanks - is it just a standard Micro JST 2 pin connector?

I believe the Noctua fans come with 3 pin connector, so I'd just use the red and black to a 2 pin connector and it should work fine....?

apparently it's no connector at all..it is soldered directly to the PCB ..hence the solder/splice notice from rgarjr

I swapped out the standard EC-880U-RP PSU fan with a Noctua AF4x20. The new fan spins up but the 880 is not detecting the fan speed and therefore thinks the PSU has failed. The fan IS spinning. I swapped the original 4 wire fan with a 3 wire Noctua, but the only wire that is not connected is the blue PWM control wire. The sense wire (yellow) is connected. Any ideas how I can get the PSU to recognise the new fan's speed? I'm sure there's a way without having to buy a 4 wire fan.
