[SOLVED] Cannot reinstall Virtualization Station after removing the installed beta version

Post by nasuser3344 » Sat Aug 19, 2023 2:41 pm

Hello,
I cannot reinstall virtualization station. I tried to install the current version (3.6.49) after having removed the beta version earlier. The error message is clear: "Failed to install Virtualization Station. Error message: Downgrading Virtualization Station to an earlier version is not supported".
I understand the message, but how do I install the beta version again? :)
Can I clear the traces, that the beta was installed so I can install 3.6.49?

That's what I did and tried:
1. (earlier this year) installed Virtualization Station for the first time
2. (in July) I updated from 3.6.4.1 to 4.0.0.212
3. (a week ago) I uninstalled Virtualization Station 4.0.0.212
4. I tried to install 3.6.49, the above mentioned error message appears
5. On this site I can only download the qpkg package of version 4.0.0.68. This cannot be installed as well: the same message about "downgrading not supported" appears again.

----------------------
My NAS is a TS-653D with firmware QTS 5.1.0.2466. Currently only one harddrive and a SATA SSD as cache.

I don’t think you can ever go back in versions.

All recent ones seem to have:

- QNAP does not support downgrading Virtualization Station 4.0 to an earlier version to avoid unpredictable application issues.

The others are similar.

Does seem odd though.

Hate to say it, after removing ghe old did you shut down and restart?

Regards

Yes, I did. That did not help though.

Open a ticket with QNAP, if they have a mechanism to prevent downgrades, they at least need to fix the reinstall

Actually, the method described here works!

Except: I renamed the whole folder /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/.QKVM to /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/old_QKVM .
After that I was able to install the default app center version of Virtualization Station (3.6.49) without any error message. After that an export of my VM (.qvm format) that was made a few weeks ago with the beta version could be imported successfully.

I had luck, I guess. :geek:

I also have the same problem after resetting the NAS: [App Center] Failed to install Virtualization Station. The installation package is incompatible. Use the compatible package.
