VNC connecting error 255

Post by Bryce Steiner »

Hello,

I have recently got my first QNAP server and so far good. I have installed a Windows XP VM. working great. I have VNC setup with password. The newer Macs can connect fine with command+K to Screen Sharing. The Macs that have a couple year old OS (Maverick and older) can't seem to connect. Not so much of an issue however when using REALVNC client they can't connect either (get an error 255 after connecting). They get an error 255 that shows

I haven't been able to find what this error is, but I assume the older MacOS and the RealVNC are probably having the same issue.
What can be done to resolve this? Is there a VNC based on QEMU that might work better?

Switch to native RDP, Windows XP Pro should support it, and MS releases RDP clients for Mac as well
