NAS stops responding

Post by prunt »

Hi!

I have been using my NAS for some years now, but it's the first time I have had any problems with it, and I am kinda clueless. Recently, my NAS started to act like a rebel teenager, stops responding to either web or ssh login attempts. Sometimes it takes a few hours after the reset, sometimes a few days. I have no idea what to do, could you help me find out the reason?

Make sure QuFirewall is uninstalled..a prime suspect for these symptoms

Yeah, I read about QuFirewall problems and I am sure it is uninstalled.

For the last few times turning off and turning on the devices solved the problem, but now it is different - I can access my NAS from my laptop, but not my PC. Not even after 3sec reset. I added my entire LAN address pool to the allowed IP list, didn't help. I disabled Norton on my PC - no results.
On my PC - QFinder shows it as online (blue star on the left side), cannot ping it (destination host unreachable or request timeout), cannot reach it with putty. Again, I would appreciate any help.

Quite a similar setup, both Windows 11 machines, same Norton, similar apps, updated regularly, nothing really changed during last months.

Are both systems on the same internal subnet?
What if you set a different IP on the "problem" system just to see if you can reconnect after it is unavailable?
Are they both wired, or both wireless or a mix?

Yes, both are on the same subnet. Changing IP on my PC helped - I understand it means it was my NAS's fault then? My whole subnet is added to the allowed addresses pool.

Check in Control Panel - Security if the (former) IP of the PC is blacklisted (should also be visible in log).
Its always possible to block an individual IP, even if the subnet is allowed.

Most likely. When it is "unavailable", can you access it with a system directly connected to the second ethernet port?

Without a router? is that even possible?

A router is never "required". Set manual IP addresses and connect directly with a cable. Done.

Is Port Trunking on? I had a similar problem and turned off trunking and now seems to be fine!

Just a thought.
