Samsung 980pro, seq_read 800MB, ts464

Post by noisee »

Dera all,

I am a new commer of qnap, I have installed a Samsung 980pro (2T) in my TS464

I try to make it as a share drive in my home network via 10Gbe lan however the read and write speed is around 300MB and 400MB respectively.

(1) I test the connect by iperf3 and it can reach average 10Gb (send and receive), so i suppose network speed is not the bottleneck.
(2) Finally i run a test in ts464, and it shows repeatedly, sequential read speed is around 800MB/s which is far to low than standard.
(3) I have tried to swap the 980 pro from slot 1 to slot 2, however no change observed in read/write speed.

spending several days to figure it out, feel so desperate now. Appreciate if any help or sharing?

many thx !!

What is the internal filesystem speed ?

Code: Select all

qcli_storage -t
Here my TS-853BU

Code: Select all

[~] # qcli_storage -t
fio test command for LV layer: /sbin/fio --filename=test_device --direct=0 --rw=read --bs=1M --runtime=15 --ramp_time=5 --name=test-read --ioengine=libaio --iodepth=32 --numjobs=1 &>/tmp/qcli_storage.log
fio test command for File system: /sbin/fio --filename=test_device/qcli_storage --direct=0 --rw=read --bs=1M --runtime=15 --ramp_time=5 --name=test-read --ioengine=libaio --iodepth=32 --numjobs=1 --size=128m &>/tmp/qcli_storage.log
This result was tested on Tue Jun 11 08:34:13 2024.

VolID VolName Pool Mapping_Name Throughput Mount_Path FS_Throughput
1 DataVol1 1 /dev/mapper/cachedev1 311.97 MB/s /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA 984.00 MB/s
The effective transfer speed over 10GbE is around 350MB\s

thanks !!

the internal filesystem speed is around 500MB (max) when i copy a 70G file from 980pro to another SSD(SATA)

For the effective transfer speed over 10GbE....i perceive it should reach around 1,000MB/s, like it shows here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QkTcee0OfE

i am so confused.....

I should have asked to post the results back (I thought it was a given after I posted mine)

There is two values Throughput and FS_throughput, what is what value?

sorry.... i execute "qcli_storage -t"

it only show the SATA HDD drive, i try several time however the result remain the same

Code: Select all

VolID VolName Pool Mapping_Name Throughput Mount_Path FS_Throughput

i switch the command to qcli_storage -t -force=1, it can finally include my nvme drive result:

4 DataVol1 288 /dev/mapper/cachedev1 858.83 MB/s /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA 836.60 MB/s

Weird, so without the force it only shows a slow drive (HDD?) and with force it only shows the NVMe?

800MB\s would fit what you get in your tests, the slots in the NAS are only PCIe Gen 3 x1 so FAR off the maximum speed the drive could do

so the 300MB write speed for my 980pro via SCSI to my PC is normal? it seems far below from 800MB (throughput).

Also I see several youtube demo, showing a 900MB to 1G write speed, my hardware spec is mostly identical to theirs, any thought? is it about the 10G lan card ? I have used the same card and cat 6 cross-over cable in another PC-PC transfer, i recall the write speed is around 800MB - 900MB average.
