"Adapter 1"Disconnected

Post by carolinarider »

This evening we had a lighting strike near the home. No issues with power however, I got the message below from mn QNAP system.

[Warning][Network & Virtual Switch] Notification from your device: 380BrownStreet
NAS Name: 380BrownStreet
Severity: Warning
Date/Time: 2024/07/09 20:04:23

App Name: Network & Virtual Switch
Category: Infrastructure
Message: [Network & Virtual Switch] Interface "Adapter 1" disconnected.

The QNAP is powered by a UPS which is, of course, connected to the homes 120VAC wiring. No other issues were found in the home (electronic equipment issues).

I looked at a message here similar to that and it stated that this is something that cannot be fixed without sending it back to the manufacturer.

I also found a message about having a second "Interface Adapter" (Interface Adapter 2) and what it said was that to have the adapter connect instead of Interface Adapter 1, you had to power down the system. I did that by pressing and holding the power button for five seconds and the unit began to shutdown.

I then powered the unit back up and after messages were received that the following two messages.

QNAP Alert

NAS Name: 380BrownStreet
Severity: Info
Date/Time: 2024/07/09 21:19:17

App Name: App Center
Category: Settings
Message: [App Center] Started app update check. The current setting is
to "Install required updates automatically".

What I need is someone to walk me through what I need to do to get the system back on line.

I have tried to access the system as I have always done using Safari on my MacBook and it will not respond.

Not sure what you mean, if your QNAP sent you that message, it means the network adapter was not fried by the lightning strike (a common entry point for this is your DSL/Cable connected network equipment)

But if the NAS sent this out, it means it can access and reach the internet on the connnected adapter.

This doesn't really mean anything useful and isn't anything to worry about unless it remains disconnected. When I reboot my ISP router for instance, I get this message on my QNAP. It would also be useful for you to know which physical adapter you are actually using. Just look at the back to see which one it is. Use whichever adapter is properly configured to be used in the GUI. If unsure, use Adapater 1 and do a 3 second reset.

Seriously, these are the most straight forward messages and nothing to be posting or panicking over. Your NAS rebooted, it was set to check for and update apps, so it did so. The fact that you got the messages means your NAS is running and able to send/receive on the internet.

DON'T go around randomly forcing a reboot. This could damage the files or file structure on the drives. Only do so when absolutely necessary.

TS231K has auto updated to QTS 5.1.8.2823 and now the Virtual Switch does not see ANY physical adapter. It has cleared its config and will not allow creation of a valid switch as no adapters are available to choose?
The QNAP is however working and has picked up a DHCP address from router but there is a stale DNS server at DNS1.
DNS2 is Ok and coming from DHCP server correctly.
Any advice as to how to correct?

Edit
Has been powered down and up again twice.

I am having the same issue where Adapters are disconnected after a NAS Reinitialization and update to 5.1.8.2823.
All adapters we connected before Reinitialization.
I have all four adapters connected to a network switch, yet only Adapter 2 is getting a DHCP leased IP.
All adapters are configured to use DCHP as well.

Configuring adapters manually does not resolve them being "Disconnected".

TS-873U-RP running QTS 5.1.8.2823, Intel I211 Gigabit adapter.
