For a 4K cluster size, what is the maximum individual HDD size for a RAID 1 volume? From searches, for a 2-bay NAS I can interpret either 2x16Tb HDDs or 2x8Tb (for a 16Tb RAID 1 volume). So, do I buy 16Tb or 8Tb drives?
Tried multiple searches but could not find answer.

Re: Max HDD size for 4K clusters
What NAS model are we talking about ?
And are we talking inode settings for the volume or sector sizes (Only spot I can think of to set these is block based ISCSI LUN)
Other than that there is no direct access to the disks on a sector level

TS 251+ with a 64-bit Celeron and 8Gb RAM. I am upgrading from 2x 2Tb in RAID 1 and set the sector size to 4K when establishing the volume. 4K was recommended as generally optimum (though opinions obviously vary).

Where did you set the sector size? I only know of Inode size

Re: Max HDD size for 4K clusters
For 4K is the maximum Volumesize 15,99 TB, with a Pool + Thick/Thin-Volume the HDD can be bigger.Piloteer87 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 12:50 am For a 4K cluster size, what is the maximum individual HDD size

Re: Max HDD size for 4K clusters
It's not possible to set the sector (or cluster) size. You can however choose the inode size. Is this what you want to do?Piloteer87 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 1:34 am I am upgrading from 2x 2Tb in RAID 1 and set the sector size to 4K when establishing the volume. 4K was recommended as generally optimum (though opinions obviously vary).

Re: Max HDD size for 4K clusters
Much appreciate the correction. So this brings up two questions:
1. Is there value in setting the Inode to 4K (versus say 8K)?
2. Assuming there is value in setting the Inode to 4K, what is the maximum individual HDD size supported for the TS-251+ to set up a single contiguous volume? 2x8Gb HDDs or 2x16 Gb HDDs? Hope that makes sense.

Re: Max HDD size for 4K clusters
1. Max volume size, vs. Max file count
2. If you are talking about spanning JBOD,RAID0 or pooled single drives (all combine the sizes of both drives into a single volume, with different overall sizes for mixed disks) then you just take the max volume size of 16TB and device it by 2 (so 8TB disks would be max*)
*Pooled single drives or spanning JBOD could mix.. e.g. 10TB and 6TB || 12TB and 4TB || etc
