migrating HDD's to new NAS TS-233

Post by cees timmer »

When I went on Holiday I switched of my TS-219P II. And now it did not react at all to switching on. In other words, it was "gone". I have ordered a new NAS, a TS-233 and according to the tables of QNAP I should be able to place the HDD's in there. However, when I read the user manual for QTS it is full of warnings the all data could be lost at start up. I was using RAID 1 and want to continue so.
Do I realy need to back-up the data befor putting the HDD's in the new NAS?

You ALWAYS need backups of your data..a RAID is NOT a backup

Thanks but that is not the question. Maybe I should put it this way: does the new NAS when used for the first time format the disks that you put into it?

That's what all people said that later on cried the big tears when everything was gone ...

Setup 'should' not overwrite these disks , but it has happened before and it will create a crippled legacy volume

Just received the package with the new NAS. Inside a folder telling me "Yes, all data will be deleted".

So end of topic.

incorrect, it says QNAP foreign disk will be deleted (as the OS partitions need to be created), the migration guide website shows the steps
