Displaying extras for TV Show

Post by melchioe »

I’m new-ish to the Plex world. I am starting to rip the 3700 titles (910 seasons of TV shows) in my DVD/BluRay collection so I can store them on and view them from my TVS-873 (with 54TB of storage, 44TB open).

I’m using:
Plex media Server 1.41.5
QTS 5.2.3.3006
64GB RAM

Ripping and encoding workstation is an iMac.

I typically use MakeMKV to do the original ripping, and then use HandBrake to convert the content to episodes.

I have LOTS of questions. The one I’m asking now is how to organize the TV show extras for use with the Plex Media Server. I seem to get different results based on the client I’m using at the moment, and the QNAP-based Plex server does not seem to be seeing all of the content itself.

My directory structure is thus:
/plexdata
/TV Shows
/Yellowstone (2018)
/Season 05
Yellowstone (2018) - s05e01.mp4
Yellowstone (2018) - s05e02.mp4
Yellowstone (2018) - s05e03.mp4
Yellowstone (2018) - s05e04.mp4
Yellowstone (2018)- s05e05.mp4
/Behind The Scenes
Behind The Story - one hundred years is nothing.mp4
behindthescenes.mp4

(I left out the movies sections above, and the Other Videos section, but they do exist and work fine as far as I can tell)

I’ve tried to structure stuff as outlined in https://support.plex.tv/articles/local- ... nd-extras/, and I get inconsistent results, partially because of client differences, and I also get anomalous results on the QNAP Plex Media server. For example, on the MacOS Plex client, I do not see extras at all. On the iOS clients (iPhone and iPad), I do see the extras. On the QNAP Plex Server, I do NOT see the extras. I did, for about 10 seconds, did see the extras on the QNAP Plex Media Server, and then they stopped showing up.

When I put those exact same extras in the location pointed to in the ‘Other Videos’ section of the Media Server, they show up reliably with all clients.

I have repeatedly scanned library files, and have refreshed all metadata multiple times as well (all libraries, not just the TV section).

Questions:
- Why can’t I see the extras when browsing in the Plex Server screen under TV Shows. Am I looking in the wrong place, or is there a setting or organization requirement I’m missing? Or is it just not capable of seeing something that clients pointed toward it can see (I can see those extras on the iPhone and iPad clients). Or I misread/misinterpreted the instructions.
- Is the MacOS client unable to see extras in TVShow seasons (this is obv. NOT a QNAP question specifically)

Thoughts? Any ideas I did not mention? Thanks!

Best thing to ask in the Plex forums as this is a Plex and not a QNAP question.

That is true, this is a QNAP forum, and I have been to the Plex forum intensively for over a week (I also posted a link to the PLEX support pages above). They have not yet been helpful, so I thought I’d try here as often the folks here know a lot. in case someone else has had experience in it, it can’t hurt to ask.
