Today WD2002FYPS HDD1 on this brand new QNAP 639 pro NAS, is reported to have a read/write error. RAID6 degraded. SMART shows HDD GOODQPeter wrote:Last week the TS-639 is exchanged for a brand new one. Installed 5 WD2002FYPS's. (one is still in RMA cycle)
Installed firmware 3.1.1 Build0815T.
Now up and running for a week 24/7 , without drives dropping from the RAID. No iSCSI for now.
Contacted QNAP support. Got direct respons.
Updated firmware to beta 3.1.2 build 1001T. Scanned HDD1. After the scan the drive was added to the RAID again and the RAID6 started rebuilding. After the rebuild the RAID6 was no longer degraded.
I am glad to have set up RAID6. This gives some extra protection in this case.
For now, the NAS is up and running again.
Okt 25 2009 - Upgraded firmware to 3.1.2 Build 1014T.
Nov 04 2009 - Received new firmware from WD. Upgraded all HDD's to 04.05G05 firmware.
Dec 2009 - Upgraded firmware to 3.2.1 build 1231T
Jan 16 2010 - I really believe that the problem is solved. NAS runs 24/7 and so far I encountered no more errors with the drives. Good job QNAP and WD
