Accessing plex plugin folder

Post by jazingenberg » Sat Jul 02, 2016 1:48 pm

I'm fairly new to using a NAS server. I'm using a qnap ts-251 to store and handle my plex media server. Now I want to to add a plugin to the plex plugin folder, but I simply can't find it. It's as if it's hidden somewhere unaccessable. I know it's located here: root/Library/Plex Media Server/ but how to get to this path?! I know this has been askes before and is explained here ( in Q11 to Q15, but I don't understand what it all means. It says: (Connect to QNAP (SSH, look below), and type:
getcfg -f /etc/config/qpkg.conf PlexMediaServer Install_path.) but how do I do this? Whats is SSH, Putty, WinSCP and SFTP?!
It all seems very complicated just to access my plex plugin folder!

So to sum it up, can someone explain how to add a plugin to plex on QNAP, the short version?

This is if your looking to add unsupported app store to plex
For unsupported app store download:
1. Unzip the file on your computer
2. after you open the zip change the name "WebTools.bundle-master" to "WebTools.bundle" and this is the folder you will drag over to filezilla when you find the location (you can drag it from file file exploror to filezilla)

I spent a couple hours trying to locate the plugins folder for plex channels and I got it thanks to help on this page and wanted to make it easier for everyone else so here is what I did! I have a ts451+ qnap (should be similar directory to other qnaps)

I used this on my server for terminal - lilyterm - ... pkg_id=315
(you may not need a terminal if you kinda go based on what I have)

I saw pwilson's comment about the command line

Code: Select all

echo "Plex is installed in: $(getcfg -f /etc/config/qpkg.conf PlexMediaServer Install_path)"

So i did that and found this: /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServe (You may get something similar to this)

1. Download and Install Filezilla -
2. When connected to your server, open filezilla then Click File > Site Manager

Add IP address in (Host:)
Change (Protocol) To SFTP - SSH File Transfer Protocol
Then User and password to your qnap
After you are connected to the server You can try to copy this to (Remote Site)

/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins

If that doesnt work then find the file in directory

You should find it around there! Wala! Enjoy!

Hello bradman1171,

I'm connected to my QNAP via FileZilla successfully, but all I can see is the list of my shared folders, I don't get the "/root" folder the way you have in the picture above. Please see the screenshot attached - when I try navigating to /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/ it says no such directory. I have a TS-653A.
Thank you so much!
