H.265 on TS-251A

Post by dufourbe » Thu Dec 08, 2016 4:14 pm

Hello all,

Specs mention "Supports 4K hardware decoding and transcodes 4K H.264 videos on-the-fly or offline". What about H.265?

Thanks

i tested HEVC via plex, video station, and emby. not possible since it lags/stutters. even h264 HL5.1 profile encoded videos are having issues with playback.

I tested however h264 hl4.1 with a bit rate of between 8-9k mbps and it worked quite well.

But if you don't use transcoding, and instead just directplay using say windows 10 to browse manually to the share folder and open the file using your desktop pc to watch via mpc-hc setup with lavfilters, madvr, subxyfilter... then HEVC, h264 HL5.1 will playback fine (my desktop cpu is an i7-3770 non-k )

I don't have 4k content so i couldn't test that.

HEVC is nice because it reduces the file size by halving roughly half the bitrate of it's h264 counterpart, and still offering the same level of quality. After replacing most of my video media from h264 and HEVC, i've saved a lot of storage space

PS: my units a ts-653a :)
