TVS-473e RAM Upgrade

Post by mlfreeman » Sun Aug 12, 2018 11:03 pm

If I buy a TVS-473e, I want to order RAM to immediately boost it to 32 GB.
What should I order, 4x8 GB or 2x16 GB (or just let price decide)?
Also, what speed, DDR4-2133 or DDR4-2400?

Do the 8 GB variants come with 1x8 GB or 2x4 GB?
I wouldn't object to a configuration that allowed me to keep the stock RAM and *add* 32 GB if the price was reasonable.

Good question. It's not shown on the hardware spec page, and the QNAP Shop lists both speeds. Suggest you ask QNAP via a support ticket.

It's 2 x 4GB modules.

I currently am running my 673 w/4x8GB and it works fine. In terms of 2133 vs. 2400, either will work but go with whichever is cheaper as it won't matter. When you are running multiple DIMMs, the speed will drop. I believe on mine is it running at 1866.

I have had good luck with the Kingston HyperX series of SO-DIMMs on my 673 as have others who have followed my recommendations.

It gets tricker if you are mixing factory RAM vs. 3rd party. I believe you have to have 3rd party first, but don't remember for sure.
