Add multimedia folder on external usb drive

Post by vinhdt » Thu Apr 25, 2019 12:06 am

Video Station or qvideo question. I don't see an option to scan or add media folder on an external usb drive like other nas devices.

Not possible.
Read the Online Manuals and use the forum search feature before posting.

It is a recommended to use RAID and have external backups. RAID will protect you from disk failure, keep your system running, and data accessible while the disk is replaced and the RAID rebuilt. Backups will allow you to recover data that is lost or corrupted, or from system failure. One does not replace the other.

Submit bugs and feature requests to QNAP via their Helpdesk app.

By default, QNAP does not allow you to add a USB drive as a media library. Buuut...

I found a hack to get it to work. It is as follows:

1. In the NAS web interface, under "Control Panel / Applications / Multimedia Management / Media Folder": Ensure that there is an internal disk folder added as "Media folder". For example "Multimedia/"
NOTE: This may not be necessary.

2. Enter via SSH as admin. For example:
ssh 192.168.1.245 -l admin

3. Go to the folder that was added to “Media folder”. For example:
cd /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Multimedia
NOTE: This may not be necessary. Maybe the symbolic link of the next step can be created anywhere on the hard disk (For example /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA)

4. Create a symbolic link to the mount point of the USB drive. For example:
ln -s /share/external/DEV3301_1 SWANS_AND1

5. In the NAS web interface, in “Control Panel / Applications / Multimedia Management / Media Folder”: Add the corresponding folder to the newly created symbolic link.
