http and Torrent with low download speed only via NAS. on laptop it's higher speed

Post by bajunid » Wed Mar 11, 2020 9:28 pm

Hi,

I'm on 459 Pro II (4.2.6) running with 4 HDD and raid 5.

I have a 500mpbs pipe from my ISP.

If I ran torrent using a laptop (qbittorent client) with wifi I get 20MB/s speed

However, using my NAS, with both qtorrent client and downloadstation client I only get 4-5 MB/s per torrent. multiple torrents only saw the cumulative torrent transfer speed limited around the same speed. Downloading using http with downloadstation, I can get upwards of 15MB/s on that one link.

I tested above with ubuntu installer torrent and http downoad link on the same day and a few minutes apart. I make sure no two torrent are running to ensure they are not transferring to each other.

My nas have a 1gbps lan straight to the router. tested iperf3 lan speed from NAS to another PC via wired ** I have ~950mbps transfer rate so this means I have no lan speed issues.

speed test on speedtest.net shows I have 500mbps via multiple clients, wired laptop, my apple TV and my wired connection pc. tested using wifi gave me more than 300mbps.

I would appreciate if the masters here can help me with this problem.

cpu usage on nas during download ?

torrents have more overhead and potential encryption than a plain jane http download

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply.

CPU load around 20% using download station and around 15% using qBittorent. Tried with another laptop vie wired, I can get 24MB/s with the same 500mbps pipe.

Even with overhead I thing I can at least get 10-15 MB/s rather than just 4-5 MB/s.

Anything else I can work on?

Hi,

Yes it's the latest updated in Qnap Club. The problem is, both downloadstation and qBittorrent behaving the same way in terms of speed. if it's just one app I understand.

Thanks!

Hi,

Have you figgured it out? I've been struggleing with this problem for a few days, reseted, rebooted, reconfigured, changed cables and connections on all my devices, but on the Download Station I achieve half of the speed (~20 MB/s) that i have on uTorrent (~40 MB/s) - 500Mbit from ISP. Sometimes the download starts at 40-50 MB/s and in a few seconds drops to the mentioned value, despite that I have the same number of Peers and changing between PT Software / Agent.

Thank You!
