[Linux Station] Very Slow

Post by attorianzo » Sun May 03, 2020 10:16 pm

The thing is that I would really want to use my qnap with Linux station. It's simply too slow for a daily productive use. I believe the problem is my hardware: Qnap TS 251 with 4 Gb.

Is it possible to upgrade RAM? Is it worth? I would upgrade my whole qnap NAS if necessary. If yes, what model would you get?

I have split this topic since there see to me a trend of new users opening up old threads.

If anyone has a similar and the thread is current (less than a few months) by all means reply to the current thread. Otherwise please post your own thread with your own issue.

firstly what do you mainly use your NAS for?

CPU on your 251 is dual core, so its not going to be snappy running linux station. as to memory, this also depends on your current software requirements of the NAS. of course extra memory will help, but since you have a dual core CPU, contention will be an issue.

as to what model?, how much do you have to spend?

Thank you for your reply.
I mainly use NAS to store pictures, family videos and documents. I browse pictures with Adobe Bridge and I do some photo and video editing. I need to access my pictures and documents remotely.

About what I want to spend I don't know, probably less then 1000 or 2000 (sorry I know it's a wide range). To pay more I really need to think about that but I would probably do it if really needed
