I feel the models are all over the place these days.... Here you have business NAS with powerful Xeon, but only 2.5gbe.
Then you have TS-431KX with only Annapurna CPU but SFP+.
And TS-832PX also with Annapurna but 2 x SFP+ and 2.5gbe
And all these new models with no clear idea of QuTS Hero compatibility.

Agree with that... but what I find odd is that the Xeon NAS doesn't mention Hero at all (although seems very likely).
Also, that these lower power NAS are getting SFP+ while higher power ones are getting 2.5gbe. I know you can add a card, but still....

my guess is SFP+ is cheaper to implement, and those little ARM units will never reach 10gbE speeds anyways (even less so with 4 spinning drives)

with four 2.5 ports, i wonder if they will advertise it with "software switching" ... as compact 2.5,5,10GbE desktop switches are hard to come by.

Oh and my favorite is, that desktop NAS are for outdoor needs (what?)

If it's cheaper I wish they'd put SFP+ natively in their higher end units like these Xeon NAS and TS-873, TVS-872XT, etc without having to buy an add-on card...

Ok I guess I missed this section of the forum. Guys look closely at the Xeon CPU in these. They are actually of an older microarchitecture than the x82s (broadwell which is a gen5 core) and are meant for lower power consumption. They are in no way replacements of the x82/x77 lineup and would fit in between. the 2.5GBe NIC makes sense with the cheaper realtek chipset which came 2 years ago.

Backup NAS: TS-473 20GB DDR4 2400MHz, Mellanox ConnectX3, 2x Samsung PM871b 256GB M.2, 4x WD Red 8TB
Former units: TVS-1282, TS-871, TS-469

I believe they renamed this to Qnap TS-h686/TS-h886 adding the H to represent the Quts Hero function.

So I found out that Span.com is selling the TS-h886-D1622-16G for $1934.74 and 1571.98 both USD

What surprises me is that there isn't much interest in this forum about these models and that leads me to question if qnap met the expectation of the consumer.
Are people waiting for a better and stronger Ryzen update and would rather save up for that?

That is surpisingly cheap.

I guess many people wait for a new tvs-x82.
My dream qnap would be a tvs-1282 followup with at least 2 10gb ethernet on board (or dual sfp+), nvme on board, qts hero, maybe with xeon cpu and ecc ram, and 4 pcie at least gen4, 1x x16, 3x x8. This would be fantastic.
