1U Replacement for TVS-463

Post by tdfranke » Thu Jul 16, 2020 12:00 am

I currently have a TVS-463 with 16Gb of ram with 2 primary functions...

1. Running QVR Pro for Camera NVR and associated storage (4 x 8TB drives)
2. Running a few virtual machines using the onboard vitualization.

Looking for the best replacement option that is 1U rack mountable with 4 bays.. Criteria would be same or better performance and able to have 16GB ram, and support both virtual machines as well as run QVR Pro..

Input welcome..

TS-463XU is the only model that support your requirement of 16 GB RAM (base model have 4 GB RAM so you need to upgrade that). TS-453DU and TS-453BU would be a step up in CPU performance but unfortunately they’re not supported with more than 8 GB RAM. They appear to work with 16 GB but there are also some indications that they’re not reliable with that RAM configuration. All of the mentioned models above are also available as RP-versions with redundant power supplies.
RAID have never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups on a different system (preferably placed at another site), you will eventually lose data!

A non-RAID configuration (including RAID 0, which isn't really RAID) with a backup on a separate media protects your data far better than any RAID-volume without backup.

All data storage consists of both the primary storage and the backups. It's your money and your data, spend the storage budget wisely or pay with your data!
