RAID 1 with different HDD sizes

Post by tingspain » Wed Jul 22, 2020 7:45 am

Hello,

I am a newbie with RAID 1, I have just one HDD in my NAS of 3TB, and I am looking to buy another HDD to set a RAID 1, but I just only find 4TB HDD. So I was wondering if I can format the 4TB HDD into 3TB and 1TB, and then use the 3TB partition for the RAID 1, and the other partition as an extra HDD for the NAS.

Thanks in advance for the help!

if you mix sizes you will lose the overhead on the larger drive ..you can not use them
