RAM Sizing

Post by EPSteve » Mon Jul 27, 2020 8:39 am

Can someone explain to me why the ts-451+ with 8GB of RAM costs more than $200 more than the 2GB version ... when the RAM costs less than $55?

Convenience fee and support.

You can purchase the less expensive unit with only 2GB of RAM and upgrade the RAM yourself, however if you require technical support for the unit with the upgraded RAM, QNAP could refuse to support the unit until you put the unit back to the 2GB configuration it was purchased in.

If you purchase the 8GB version from QNAP and you require technical support, they will provide the technical support.

Essentially, it's nothing more than a corporate money grab.
