TL-D800C Spin Down / Standby

Post by docchris » Tue Jul 28, 2020 9:34 pm

Bit of a strange question.

I have a 672XT with a D800C.

If i shutdown the NAS.. obviously the NAS turns off and all disk activity in the NAS stops.

However, with the NAS off the D800C does not go to standby (at least the lights on the front stay on - maybe this is by design) but the disks don't spindown at all... there is no activity from the heads obviously because the NAS they are attached to is switched off... but you can still distinctly hear all 8 drives humming away.

Is this expected behavior? is this going to be "fixed". it seems like a huge waste of power, not to mention the additional wear on the disks.

any advice / thoughts?

just checked the hardware manual, there is mention of standby in it

https://us1.qnap.com/Storage/TechnicalD ... -02-en.pdf

Only QNAP would know if this feature would be added in the future , but they do not come here.
