TS-119 HDD Upgrade

Post by Handy » Thu Jul 30, 2020 2:58 am

Hello,

I am a happy owner of a TS-119 that I have been using for 11 years with the same happiness as when I first started.

The case works very well, however, the hard drive is starting to have big problems.

I have checked the compatibility of the hard drives, however, all of them are the same age as the TS-119, i.e. more than 10 years old:

QUESTION:

How to know the references of a new HDD manufactured in 2020 that I could install in my TS-119?

Thank you for your help,

Handy

x19 is capable to install drives at least up to 4TB (as I use those in my 419p+) up to a volume limit of 16TB, not applicable to your 1 bay device. So get a NAS compatible drive of your choice (with single drives even SMR would work)

I have an 8TB Ironwolf installed in a 219PII, no problem.
1x TS431, 1x TS251, 1x TS253, 1x TS219PII

Hello,

First of all, I would like to thank you very sincerely.

Allow me to summarize: I went to check the compatible hard drives on the QNAP site.Of course, these HDDs are all VERY old, as they are the same age of my device, more than 10 years old (2010).

So I thought: "Let's go buy one of these VERY old hard drives on eBay, or Amazon".

However, a "TS-119 compatible" used HDD will be like mine: at the end of its life.

And on top of that, their prices are VERY expensive.

I thought of you, on the QNAP Forum, and asked you a simple little question.

You answered me kindly and with an exceptional professional level that I could buy a new HDD: Thank you DolbyMan and Ron1963.

So I just bought for 130 € VAT incl. at http://www.lcdi.fr of which I am a customer since 1993, a Western Digital WD40EFAX of 4Tb.

Result?

My brand new WD40EFAX 4 TB (date March 2020) works perfectly with my very old TS-119 (date February 2010)!

I have a NEW HDD, with a REAL guarantee, for the price of a VERY old used HDD :)

Thanks to all of you :

Thank you to QNAP for producing such good devices.

Thanks to you DolbyMan and Ron1963 for your good advice!

My TS-119 will follow me for the next 10 years, so...

See you on 10 years :)
