Best methodology to back up Seagate Personal Cloud to QNAP?

Post by dogeggs » Thu Jul 30, 2020 3:52 am

Hello

I’ve purchased a new QNAP and wish to migrate all of my data from my Seagate personal cloud. The backup options on the Seagate are WebDAV, rsync , FTP, SMB or NFS.

Which would you say is the best option, particularly for speed as there’s 2TB to transfer ?

Thanks in advance,

Anything that works. Personally I would try first with SMB as that normally is enabled anyway and probably will be the easiest. 2 TB isn't that much unless you're in an extreme hurry.
RAID have never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups on a different system (preferably placed at another site), you will eventually lose data!

A non-RAID configuration (including RAID 0, which isn't really RAID) with a backup on a separate media protects your data far better than any RAID-volume without backup.

All data storage consists of both the primary storage and the backups. It's your money and your data, spend the storage budget wisely or pay with your data!
