Probably a better idea to buy a QNAP with the required amount of memory already installed - upgrading appears to be a major pain.
@tyxeros / @grimey73, I'm sorry for seeing this so late. However, I can confirm with certainty that the CT8G4SFS824A works with 2 pieces. I have personally bought that as a pair via CT2K8G4SFS824A (which is the same thing but 2x together). There are some odd cases sometimes with how the RAM is seated in the QNAPs that forces me to remove and re-put them into the NAS multiple times. Otherwise, I can't see why this wouldn't work. Sorry that I didn't get back to you earlier.

@grimey73, ah, ok. No problem. I did try 2x4GB with Crucial memory as well, and CT2K8G4SFS824A worked for me. I also tried using 2x official ADATA ones (by combining the memory from 2 different systems but exact same model - note: there are 2 types, a 2400 Mhz one and a 2666 Mhz one). Same issue occurred there; I ALSO hit the memory seating problem several times, even with official memory. That was what made me extremely confident that there are seating issues with these systems sometimes, as their official memory should be good. As I guessed, re-seating and even shifting them slightly left or right before placing down helped, but it was hit or miss several times.grimey73 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 1:50 am That's cool. I ended up sending the memory back. I did try a couple of times to seat the memory in the NAS - just one module and then both...but no dice. Odd.
I am now planning to buy 4GB of 'official/supported' memory from an authorised reseller. I dont need plenty of memory - SMB, NFS and Plex is really all i use the NAS for...but it would have been nice to have had ample memory should those requirements change.
Thanks for providing the info.
Yes, it is.
Sorry for the late response. CT8G4SFS824A should work. I am not sure why you are hitting issues. I have personally tested and confirmed that one. However, CT8G4SFRA266 is hit-or-miss. As explained in my guide, SFRA is up to the Crucial to decide what to send. It's their way of dealing with the supply chain issues and have flexibility, with a slightly lower price point to customers as a means of given them that flexibility.AJavierCollado wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 10:31 pm I bought a 8GB RAM Crucial CT8G4SFS824A to upgrade my TS-453D, but no luck. The NAS didn't boot with only this Crucial DIMM.
After that I bought a 8GB Crucial CT8G4SFRA266 DIM. With this new DIMM the NAS booted, It worked with the original DIMM from QNAP (Adata DIM of 4GB), but I experimented slow performance. Now, I don't know wich DIMM to buy...
CT2K8G4SFS824A should be good. If you are using NVMe M2 SSDs in the same NAS, you'll have to get the QM2 M.2-NVMe PCIe adapter from QNAP, as you need at least 2 drives to slot (for RAID protection reasons).ssvfast wrote: ↑Thu Jul 21, 2022 7:58 am I just bought my first ever NAS = TS 453D.
Trying to upgrade the RAM and also add an NVMe 2 1TB Cache
I bought a wrong ones:
1) RAM Upgrades: Crucial CT16G4SFRA266 (one chip not a pair) --> returning that and will be getting CT2K8G4SFS824A
2) NVMe M2 SSD - Samsung 980 --> I guess this is good
3) RIITOP NVMe to PCIe 4x 8x 16x Adapter Card with Heat sink --> I guess I need to return this
Any advice plz?
Just installed it. I gotta say, man that disassembly was easy. Just 2 screws, and everything slides off. You can access the 2 RAM slots with ease. So I removed the factory installed RAM stick from Adata, and added the CT2K8G4SFS824A 2x8gb sticks to slot 1 and 2. Assembled the NAS again, including harddrives and started it up. Works like a charm right away. Thanks for all the information in this topic! Never had such an easy install without any hickups.
