Thank you.
My TS-453D really works with 2x "Kingston 8GB 2666MHz DDR4 CL19 Notebook Ram KVR26S19S8/8 Y-43106" now.

Hi,
I'm looking to buy the 653D and upgrade the memory to at least 16GB. But cannot decide between
1. Use existing ram + new 16GB (4G + 16G)
or
2. Buy a pair of 8G and remove the existing ram out.
Any significant performance gain from using the pair ram module?
Thanks.

What would you use the extra RAM for ? These little Celeron units have dual channel options, but have very little CPU power to make use of that bandwidth (gaming, simulations, video editing, etc)
So if you have a specific RAM need (VMs, containers, etc) RAM amount would be more important than RAM configuration

Go for a pair of equal RAM, it's general knowledge this is always better. I've had experience with a manager in the company I worked at who chose to only buy a single stick, this worked for a while, but in the end the single stick of RAM failed, so he had to buy a pair anyway1PDY wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 11:54 pm Hi,

Hey folks, I upgraded the RAM in my TS-453D using some relatively inexpensive Timetec RAM and it worked with no issues. System now shows 32GB.
RAM in question:

I followed the guidelines posted by OP and looks like it worked out

Does anyone have any experience with these modules? QNAP TS-253D
Crucial DDR4 16GB 2400MHz CL17 (CT16G4SFD824A)
I would like to increase the memory to 32GB.
I am using it now with absolutely no problems:
2x8GB Crucial SO-DIMM 8GB DDR4 2400MHz CL17 Single Ranked x8
Crucial DDR4 16GB 2400MHz CL17 (CT16G4SFD824A)

Re: TS-x53d RAM Upgrade Informative Guide (TS-653D, TS-453D, TS-253D, TS-251D, TS-451D2)
I just registered to update everyone on the Crucial CT2K16G4SFD824A 32Gb Kit.
Someone had mentioned issues with it after a period of time, aka unresponsive system etc.
I run a TS-653d and found the system to post properly and after a cold boot working stable. However, after about 3-5 days of running;
- background cloud based tasks,
- running 2 minimal needs containers (4gb utilized),
- utilizing VPN,
- Virtualstation with one VM (8GB assigned)
- and background network file storage tasks
The unit started to become consistently more unstable to the point of requiring restarts. This is where the another symptom presents itself, the unit requires up to 30 minutes to boot at times and doesn't fully complete its boot process. Powering it down and performing another powercycle after ca. 5 minutes resolves this and the boot returns to 3-6 minutes.
Swapping the ram back to an ADATA 16gb Stick resolves that issue immediately. I tested the ram and found no errors, more so the logs indicate no over utilization of the ram. My suspicion is that there is something with the chip not liking with these particular modules. I have worked on this issue for 3 months with multiple ram swaps. The ram itself works well in other iot and mobile devices so I think this may be a quirk with the chip/chipset.
I hope this helps anyone dealing with this, I have to say thank you to everyone here as I have heavily utilized all your experiences in my testing and deployment. Great work everyone and keep on experimenting and testing.

How about using 2Rx4 8GB module paired with original factory preinstalled 4GB module on a 451D2? Is that compatible?

Does anyone know of a working tested 2x16GB memory configuration in the TS-253 D NAS? Preferably Adata, Kingston, Crucial...
Thanks

Re: TS-x53d RAM Upgrade Informative Guide (TS-653D, TS-453D, TS-253D, TS-251D, TS-451D2)
Currently running with 12GB (a 16GB DIMM on order)
This was "Crucial RAM CT8G4SFRA266 8GB DDR4 2666MHz CL19 Laptop Memory" (Amazon)
Memory slot 1 (Channel A, DIMM 1) 4 GB, non-ECC, SO DIMM (A-DATA Technology)
Memory slot 2 (Channel B, DIMM 2) 8 GB, non-ECC, SO DIMM (Crucial Technology)
BIOS version Q04MAR12
Total memory 12 GB (12 GB usable)
Multi-channel support 2 channels - 1 DIMM(s) per channel
Memory slots 2 (4 GB / 8 GB)
Firmware version QTS 5.1.4.2596 Build 20231128
Many posts above say SFRA doesn't work, but it seems to be very much BIOS dependent. Per a post on page 5 which had the same BIOS version, I took a punt. Would be handy if others posted what works with which BIOS version.

Re: TS-x53d RAM Upgrade Informative Guide (TS-653D, TS-453D, TS-253D, TS-251D, TS-451D2)
Thank you for putting this information together. I have a TS-653D fully populated with six HDD in two storage groups. I used the post to buy 32GB (2x16GB) dimms of crucial memory as described in the post from my QNAP vendor. The 8GB (2x4GB) of memory that shipped with the NAS seemed like not quite enough, I haven't collected good stats but it seemed like 70-80% of memory were frequenty being used and certain processes like virus scans and backups took a while.
The NAS is running noticeably faster. I purchased the following from B & H
Crucial DDR4 2400 MHz SO-DIMM Overview
The 16GB DDR4 2400 MHz SO-DIMM Memory Module from Crucial provides a capacity of 16GB for notebooks as well as most NUCs. This RAM chip is compatible with systems that have a 260-pin slot and support non-ECC, unbuffered DDR4 memory. It features a CAS latency of 17 and a speed of 2400 MHz. With more memory, the computer can better handle demanding applications as well as run multiple programs at the same time. In addition, it operates at 1.2V and offers other energy features to reduce power consumption.
Energy Efficient
Operating at just 1.2V, Crucial DDR4 SO-DIMMs consume 20% less voltage than standard DDR3 memory. These memory modules also have other efficiency features to reduce power consumption
Performance
This memory module features a speed of 2400 MHz, so demanding programs can run without lag. To handle more data at once, it has a bandwidth of PC4-19200 that enables your system to effortlessly multitask between apps.
Thank you very much. If I can be of assistance.

Re: TS-x53d RAM Upgrade Informative Guide (TS-653D, TS-453D, TS-253D, TS-251D, TS-451D2)
hmm, this is odd... just received Crucial RAM CT16G4SFRA266
Doesn't work with the A-Data original 4Gb, or the Crucial RAM CT8G4SFRA266 I bought - but does work in its own.
Total memory 16 GB (15 GB usable)
Multi-channel support 2 channels - 1 DIMM(s) per channel
Memory slots 2 (16 GB / --)
but strangely it is not reported as Crucial:
Total memory 16 GB (15 GB usable)
Free memory 14 GB
Memory slot 1 (Channel A, DIMM 1) 16 GB, non-ECC, SO DIMM (Micron Technology)
the 8GB shows as :
Memory slot 2 (Channel B, DIMM 2) 8 GB, non-ECC, SO DIMM (Crucial Technology)
Have I been shipped a re-badged (fake) one?
Probably not - had a good read of this thread - https://linustechtips.com/topic/1501794 ... -dont-know
Full markings on the labels and physical descriptions:
CT8G4SFRA266.M4FF 8GB DDR4-2666 SODIMM 1.2V CL19 Assembled in Mexico 530864 E7C40386 2224 AV

Happy to confirm that Crucial CT2K16G4SFD824A Pin Memory Kit 32 GB, 16GB x 2, DDR4 2400 MT/s, DR x 8 SODIMM 260 works like a charm in TS-451D2.
This thread is absolutely great help.
Thanks everyone.
