Currently QNAP QTS has a QR code scanning for passwordless login. I've been using this for a while to familiarize. So i have a good understanding of this setup.
i'll explain the steps how the qr code passwordless works.
step
1. go qts login page. enter username
2. open qnap android app, and scan the qr code (u got to aim the camera correctly
3. now you are logged in (you can save your device so you don't have to do this later onwards. i don't use this but you can if you want to)
Instead, i'll explain here how the webauthn passwordless login works. I'll use authentik passwordless as a comparison
https://youtu.be/aEpT2fYGwLw?t=246
steps
1. just click login with security key (you don't even need to type your username)
2. select the device you set e.g. android smartphone
3. go to smartphone click the pop up, authentik asks if you want to login, click yes, then scan fingerprint, now your logged in.
in the video example he did have a QRcode to scan proceeded by finger print scan. I didn't test this method. But the one i explained above is what i liked best because i don't have to use the cam to point aim
Since this works on authentik which is self hosted, can't qnap add webauthn to the QTS in the future which does fingerprint scanning like how i described it worked for me with authentik, gmail and other sites that are now supporting this passwordless login webauthn method
thx
