IO ERROR when deploying Alpine Linux VM

Post by njlammerts »

I am running Virtualization station 4.0.0.256 (20241014) on TVS 472. I want to deploy a Alpine Linux VM tor run PiHole.
After downloading the latest version and configuring the VM (512Mb mem, 10Gb disk, 1 CPU, and running setup-alpine) I get the following error when the setup wants to write config to disk:
ERROR: syslinux-6.04_pre1-r16: IO ERROR

I tried a different version of Alpine, but get the same error. Also disabled caching, used IDE over SCSI controller etc.
I tried to deploy the same VM , but now on ESXi 6.7 , and I get the same error.

Searching the net for this error only states to disable caching and check disk for errors. But nothing resolves this error

If you get the same error on ESXi, it's not really a QNAP problem..no?

Probably not a specific QNAP Problem, but I can't find anything that leads to a solution, so I thought to try it on QNAP Forum, maybe someone else had this/same problem and found solution
I run into this problem after deploying on QNAP NAS, to rule out QNAP itself, I also deployed on ESXi but with same result....
