Access Denied / File Permission problem 3.7.1
After the 3.7.1 firmware update, we receive the "Access Denied. Contact your Administrator" error when trying to open an Excel document on the server. (But only on some files)
Checking the "Apply and replace all existing permissions of this folder, files, and subfolders" and re-writing all the permissions temporarily fixes this, but the moment a user opens then saves a file, only that user can re-open the file. All other users are denied access.
We're in a small business environment with 50 users, and we simply can't afford to have this problem.
TS459 Pro
Firmware 3.7.1
Sincerely,
Nathan Laing.
P.S. Is it possible to roll back to an earlier firmware?

1. Download the firmware you want from the product download page and unzip it to extract the actual firmware file.
2. Disable Live Update, if enabled, on the second tab of the System Administration, Firmware Update page.
3. Do a manual firmware update (in your case a downgrade) on the first tab of the same admin page.
RAID have never ever been a replacement for backups. Without backups on a different system (preferably placed at another site), you will eventually lose data!
A non-RAID configuration (including RAID 0, which isn't really RAID) with a backup on a separate media protects your data far better than any RAID-volume without backup.
All data storage consists of both the primary storage and the backups. It's your money and your data, spend the storage budget wisely or pay with your data!

Re: Access Denied / File Permission problem 3.7.1
I too am having a similar issue with our TS509pro. After upgrading to 3.7.1 we are having disk write issues in that when our folks are working in Photoshop and trying to save a file it says that it is already open (when it is clearly not). We actually all use the guest accounts and work in common folders. Does anyone else have a similar issue?

Have oplocks enabled or disabled on the share(s) you experience these issues? Pleae check the share properties - using the first icon in the "Action" field per share under Access Rights Management >> Share Folder.
Against the common understanding, oplocks is not Microsoft's file locking - it's more a distributd oportunistic caching. When having isues on file used by different uses within a short time, you shsould consider to disbale oplocks on the share. While a fifle seems to be written in the view of th Windows application (ie. M$ Office or Adobe whatever), it can happen this file is just written locally on the workstation, but not yet back on the shared network storage. This can lead to such issues.

Re: Access Denied / File Permission problem 3.7.1
Thanks for the suggestion, the Public share folder (which everyone is using) did not have oplocks enables, but the Network Recycle Bin did, I've disabled them there to see if this will resolve the issue (each save backs up a copy in the network recycle bin). I'll write again if this doesn't solve my problem. Thanks again.

Re: Access Denied / File Permission problem 3.7.1
I have a similar problem. I am not sure if it is the version the problem, because I am not sure of the version firmware when I gave it to production.
The think is that I have a common folder shared for all users and inside that folder I created another folder for a certain department and set the permission R+W only to the members of the certain department.
When a member of the department access a word or excel file and saves it then no other member from this department (except from the first) can open this file. They get the "Access Denied. Contact your Administrator" error.
In "Access Rights Management"->"Advanced Options", only "Enable Advanced Folder Permissions" is ticked. I tried with "Lock file (oplocks) "No" and "Yes" with no difference...
I then ticked "Enable Windows ACL Support" to let Windows take over and it was fixed. So something is wrong with the way QNAP handles the permissions.

Re: Access Denied / File Permission problem 3.7.1
Problem solved, downgraded the firmware to 3.6.1 Build0302 and installed Samba_Fix_CVE-2012-1182_X86. All file permission back to normal.
