When joining a QNAP TS-879 Pro to Windows AD, how is the required domain administrator password stored? Encrypted or plain text?
Running firmware 3.8.1 Build1205.

Re: Active Directory Domain Administrator Password
In the best QNAP tradition, it is of course in plaintext in world-readable file.
Code: Select all
-rw-r--r-- 1 admin administ 7556 Dec 12 09:40 /mnt/HDA_ROOT/.config/uLinux.conf
I'm gone from this forum till QNAP stop wasting volunteers' time. Get help from QNAP helpdesk instead.

That is fantastic! That might just disallow me from adding this to the corporate AD.
Thanks for the reply.

As a bonus, I frankly cannot see what it is useful for there. After joining the domain, edit the above file and delete the credentials from the [Samba] section and see if things still work.

WTF?!!?? Boy am I ever glad I stumbled over this thread. I've cleared it for now, we'll see what happens. Are previous versions of the .conf files automatically versioned for backed up somewhere? e.g. where else do I need to go hunt and destroy?doktornotor wrote:In the best QNAP tradition, it is of course in plaintext in world-readable file.
